The History of Granite Bay, CA
Covering about 25 square miles, Granite Bay is one of Northern California's most coveted high-end communities. Located in an unincorporated part of Placer County, this town was officially recognized as "Granite Bay" in 1987. Granite Bay was unofficially known as "Granite Bar" to some of the area's early residents, who relied on nearby Folsom Lake's water supply, much as local residents still do today. Folsom Lake really gave birth to Granite Bay, and gold miners first came here looking to strike it rich. The history of Granite Bay and Folsom Lake continue to be intertwined, as the granite rock found in the banks of Granite Bay's section of the lake laid the foundation for the construction of the Folsom Dam.
Granite Bay has now grown to over 20,000 residents, and is home to some of the best schools in Northern California, with numerous outdoor recreational opportunities, and a close-nit community. In Granite Bay, you will find some of the area's most luxurious and exclusive homes, gated estates and coveted neighborhoods.
